375-mile clue

Solution: Schroon Lake, NY (Adirondack Marathon)

Note: We also see, on the bibs 87 (a reference to I-87 and 74, the road that runs east past Eagle Lake and to the Ti Ferry.

Apparently, this is the final online clue. The “final” clue is essentially the physical sign, already found.

25-mile radius? No.

Also, after the 375-mile clue is solved, we see:

Correction by Dodge on Twitter: When you solve the 5th clue vid it gets you within 375 miles of the Journey, not 25 as was written. More to come. Stay tuned.

Physical Clue, across Ti Ferry in VT

As reported earlier (bejones, 2:24pm), across the Ti Ferry into VT on 74, just before turning south on 73, a sign that reads:

This isnt the end
Its only the beginning
We cant wait to share
Where we went next
the journey is within 350 miles from here

Picture #1 – Malta Drive In Theater, Malta, NY

>> Higher resolution version

Notes: The Dodge Journey is north bound (and the bikes are there, just blurred because of the Journey’s speed)

Could this be a reference to Paradox, NY? Paradox Lake? Conflicting directions as a Paradox? Pair of Docks?

Confirming shot:

And for direction (VT side, looking towards NY):

We sent 2 pics to various sites. If posted and you can find them, they won’t lead to the car, but they’ll get you started (9/23, 21:12)

Gather your search party and stock up on beef jerky. The East coast #JourneySearch begins tomorrow at 12PM EDT. YouTube.com/dodge

  1. That is the state flag of New York flying behind the Journey (pictured with the bikes and family) and the sign says No running on the deck…maybe a boat or ferry boat?

      • so you believe that the Dodge photo depicts the car traveling from NY to VT, or is that just the direction you believe the panoramio pic is from?

        Like

      • Actually, I need to give that a bit of thought … may have rushed to judgement. We have two aspects to consider: 1) Landscape view; 2) Blue flags are on the same side (south) …

      • @Steve – The flags are not on the ferry today. But using binoculars, we looked at the painted signs next to them. In the pic, the top skinny sign is at a slight slope compared to the one below it. These signs are on the northwest corner of the ferry. So based on that, they Journey is heading east, to VT. Lady pointing in direction of cruise boat. Maybe telling child “look” or that they will be riding on it soon? Still thinking this might be a jag to the right, and then retreat into VT. You would have to drive past the roadsigns to get to the parking lot for the cruise. No other clues so far have been in VT. We sit now and ponder. But I can tell you this, the ferry owner is going to make a killing too. And if anyone gets the chance, PJ’s has the best ribs in the country.

      • Always great getting reports from boots on the ground. Thanks for the update and agree they’re moving into VT … and I haven’t seen anyone tie the beef jerky reference to NY, but like you, esp with the Paradox reference, I tend to be on the fence (or between the pair of docs … LOL) Cheers!

    • They are heading to Vt- the life preserver box and the signage on the guardrail match the photo with the Subaru wit Vt plates, and that photo also clearly shows the Vt signage. Notice the skipper house for ferry would be in the shot of the Journey were they to be headed to NY..

      • There is also a large white box on the southeast corner of the ferry hanging on the guardrail that is absent on the northwest corner. There is no white box in the Journey photo. The NW corner has the ‘no running’ ignage, while the SE corner does not…

  2. geocaching.com

I have an account and I am an avid geocacher. But there is no way to search for those pics on the site. Perhaps there is a clue IN a geocache… There are hundreds in the area.

    • Hi Ace and fair question. My take: 1) We have them driving west by eagle lake, NY (a contradiction); 2) because it is widely believed that the bike shot location was identified (and that it may have been the final location), they may have changed up things … so, direction may be relevant. For example, if they’re heading to NY, it would support a plan b. Cheers!

      • Adirondack makes a Mountain bike. My idea is the 1 clue is on the bike again BUT THE BIKE ITSELF Adirondack NOW I have 2 theories Your theory of Eagle Lake going back west on 74 to 9 and south There is Adirondacks. But dont like that 1 cause to much back track Number 2 Adirondacks Park South on Vermont side with a Dolph Pond off Dolph Pond Road is the view from video over water and into the park. JUST A THOUGHT. SOUTH 2 ways into the Park 22A on Vermont side and South on 22 on NY side

      • The ferry direction is easily determined. The New York flagged end of the ferry touches NY soil. The Vermont flagged end of the ferry touches Vermont soil. The Journey is facing away from the NY flag, therefore, they are headed toward Vermont.

      • Hello, DPNJ12. None of the photos in the link you provided disputes my assertion. NY flag on one end, VT flag on the other. None of the pics in the link provided show NY on opposite corners. Look a bit closer.

      • 1) If you look on this blog here:

        http://bikeformission.blogspot.com/

This is from last year, and you can clearly see both ends of the ferry: on each end is an american flag, and a NY flag.

        2) There are no bikes in the Malta picture (going N) but in the TK bridge picture (going S) there is…

        3) Dodge stated that they sent those pictures to “various sites”. Has anyone found them anywhere else yet, except the geocaching site?

      • Those links you all provided are great! Look very closely. It is the American flag and NY flag on one end and American flag and VT on the other. Always on opposite sides.

      • lmt, again, look closer. Yes they are both blue. Just like many other state’s flags are blue. But one is VT (red below the crest) and one is NY (white below the crest).

      • Compare the other objects on the NW and SE corners of the ferry- the signs, the white box hanging over the guardrail. The jorney photo was shot on the NW corner of the ferry, suggesing the vehicle is facing East, headed for Vt..

  3. I think part of the ‘Paradox’ clue is that the clues are in paradox – you have to commit to going east or west to search and the ferry ride makes it very hard to change your mind. I also like the Paradox lake tie in.

    Like

    • Hi David. I would add just a bit to that. With the drive in theater, in close proximity to PJs barbecue, with a northbound direction. The same direction as it passes the Magic Forest (Uncle Sam). The paradox certainly connects with a number of observations in the east search: paradoxes in the commercial (perhaps), Paradox, NY. further west beyond Eagle Lake, NY. With the ferry, we don’t seem to gain too much 😦 Cheers!

  4. I’ve had a thought concerning,”‘Like being there,’ is not like being there,” that I thought of with the Midwest search (since we were out searching) and have read comments that seem to have relevance for the East search. I recognized OKC from the shot, I’ve been there a number of times, but I didn’t recognize the large black tower so it threw me off. I also couldn’t find the tower in the street view. Didn’t find out until we drove by that they were building a new tower downtown. It seems Dodge is sometimes using locations that you actually have to “be there” to confirm what’s real today.

  5. I don’t think it matters which direction the ferry is going since the shot from the commercial is going into Vermont. There is no way to know which way they’re going even if you can determine the ferry’s direction. The fact that we have them so far west of the ferry and then going east presents the ultimate paradox. Pick one side, folks, and good luck.

    Like

    • Quite right. First the 2010 movie was called “Paradox” not the Paradox. So, we have the Journey going in three directions. That’s the Paradox.

  6. Do you think the photo of them removing the bikes is Mount Independence and if so will they still leave the car there or go with a Plan B? (Seems like it would be a lot of extra work for them to come up with a Plan B at this point given their investment in the commercials they started making last year).

  7. I have a photo that will verify that they are heading toward VT. The sign next to the lifesaver circle is on the right of the circle. That one is on the cable side where the tug is. The other side, which is open, has the sign on the left side of the circle. If you’d like the photo, let me know

  8. It just hit me. The clue isn’t which direction the ferry is heading. The clue is the ferry itself! The Journey can be spotted from the ferry and only from the ferry! The place to be at 12:00 is the ferry!

  9. It does seem we have to pick a “side” and go with it… interesting.

The ferry picture – what if the paradox is that the car is parked backwards on purpose? 🙂

  10. The Dodge Journey is in Green Mountain National Forrest, Vermont… The other two were both found on the boarders of two states… California and Nevada (#1) and Oklahoma and Texas (#2).

So based on the Malta, NY picture and the map showing the Green Mountain forrest off to the east and NY, VT & MA meeting at that location.

GO GET IT!! I wish I was close to VT!!

  11. I have been following this thread rather religiously, and it is so much fun! However, the inconsistencies have been driving me crazy, such as the direction across the Twin Bridges and Lake view drive, Eagle Lake, NY. The direction seems as though it could be either way, as both N and S roads curve after the bridge ends and both have signs that match the photo. As far as Eagle Lake, NY I have looked on Google maps street view, and no matter how I look I do not see the same mountain on the south side as is shown in the street view on the images posted. Also it appears there is no where for grass to grow along the south side of the lake, and there are clearly grasses in the commercial. Plus, the fact that the bikes disappear in the Malta photo drives me nuts. I would love to hear your opinions!

    Like

    • Hi Krystie and you’re absolutely right re: the inconsistencies, some might describe as a Paradox 😉 Just FYI, I believe the bikes are in the Malta shot (like the scene driving by Magic Forest, they’re going fast enough to create a blur … tough to see in a low-res still). Cheers!

  12. personally I think you all going on a wild goose chase up north. My bet is on a place called journeys end lake new york, its 42 miles from the world financial center in new york city. Although they were talking about beef jerky and all that, I think that is the scenic route. who knows, maybe theyll put it on a boat in the middle of the lake. It would be a nice twist. There are still kayaks in back of the journey. Maybe you have to kayak to it. LOL good luck alllllllllll
